Responsible for the research, design, and development of sophisticated systems for video game platforms and applications; Support the design of specialized software systems and applications in support of our interaction design objectives focused on user interfaces and experiences; Develop software to facilitate user experience in cutting edge technological media formats including advanced video game consoles, PC, and on-line gaming; Utilize in-depth knowledge of computer science, engineering, and applied mathematics skills to drive next generation features for software and 3-D graphics systems, known as 3-D engines, developed by Valve; Analyze software and hardware requirements of Valve products’ graphics, visual effects and tool-time applications needs, formulating system testing procedures to ensure the quality and consistency of software systems developed by Valve; Collaborate with computer graphic artists, designers, and producers to ensure conformity with technical and aesthetic specifications; Work with object-oriented design and networking technologies for large scale systems and gaming platforms; and Design elements for cutting-edge technological media formats including advanced video game consoles, PC, and on-line gaming.
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or the foreign degree equivalent; and 10 years of experience working in distributed transactional systems.
Experience must include each of the following:
- 10 years of experience tuning hardware and software to meet performance and power efficiency targets;
- 8 years of experience debugging and troubleshooting distributed storage systems, including relational databases;
- 8 years of experience interfacing with development teams to run and support the services they build;
- 5 years of experience working in at least two of Go, Rust, Python, C++, or Perl;
- 2 years of experience working with customer-facing online services for video games; and
- 2 years of experience mentoring and onboarding junior engineers.
Salary range of $275,000 to $325,000 per year.
